Steven Spielberg talks
about filming on Dartmoor

World famous film Director Steven Spielberg gave an exclusive interview to the BBC the morning after the London Film Premier of his amazing new film WAR HORSE. A large part of this film was made in Devon and on Dartmoor and in the interview Spielberg said of Dartmoor "There's no place like it in the world. I realised I had 3 major characters (as well as Joey the horse and actor Jeremy Irvine) the third is the landscape". Mr. Spielberg has also said that he has never seen such an abundance of natural beauty. Read more about the filming of War Horse on Dartmoor here.

TIS Dartmoor Guide Nick Wotton takes our students for beautiful walks on Dartmoor almost every Sunday and a visit to TIS gives you the opportunity to see this incredible landscape for yourself.

Dartmoor has inspired many great writers and Arthur Conan Doyle was staying in Torquay when he wrote his most famous story the Hound of the Baskervilles. This story tells the tale of a huge, fierce dog that terrorises Sir Henry Baskerville in his Dartmoor home. It's a spooky story!

Intern Marion Serre has made 3 great videos about TIS. She has really captured the spirit of the school.

Marion Serre from France has been working at TIS as an Intern for 3 months with us at TIS - studying English and making three short video films about the school.

Each film is short and gives you a quick idea of how it is to be a student at TIS and live in Torquay. You'll see some of our students, our class and meet some of the TIS staff too.

Well done Marion

Friday 29th April 2011 - TIS Students celebrate the Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton - now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
Friday 29th of April 2011 and TIS students watch the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton - the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. We all raised our glasses in celebration and ate cake.
A wide range of age groups are expected all year round at TIS.

We notice each year that in the months from January to June and October to December we get more and more "students" booking who are in their 40's, 50's and 60's.

However, this pattern is now appearing in the summer too. In the summer of 2010 we had an 82 year old at elementary level who stayed with us for a full 8 weeks - so don't be nervous, you will find others in your age group here as well.

Cambridge BEC Preliminary, Vantage and Higher Preparation Courses are available as Options classes for 2012.

Write to BECNEWS@tisenglish.co.uk for more information on availability.
