Brief Guide to General English & General English Plus Options Courses
General English (GE18) = 18 x 60 minute hours tuition per week
Timetable: Monday to Friday inclusive 09.00 to 12.30 plus Tuesday 13.30 to 16.00
Maximum 10 per class (12 in July/August) Average: 6-8 (9-10 in July/August)
Minimum Age: 16 (no upper age limit - many of our students are between 20 & 65+)
Length of Stay: Minimum 2 weeks - no maximum - many students stay 12-24 weeks or longer
Level: Elementary to Advanced (we cannot accept complete beginners on this course)
Suitable for all age groups who simply want to improve their use of English
General English Plus Options (GP5) = 23 x 60 minute hours tuition per week
Timetable: Monday to Friday inclusive 09.00 to 12.30 plus Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons
Maximum 10 per class (12 in July/August) Average: 6-8 (8-9 in July/August)
Minimum Age: 16 (no upper age limit - many of our students are between 20 & 60+)
Length of Stay: Minimum 2 weeks (1 week by prior negotiation) - no maximum – 12 to 24 weeks is common
Level: Elementary to Advanced (we cannot accept complete beginners on this course)
18 hours of General English and 5 hours of Options

Cambridge, IELTS, (TOEIC, TOEFL on request)
We offer a choice of options each week and students choose which option they want.
The Business Option
Levels: Pre-Intermediate to Advanced
5 hours tuition per week in “Communication Skills for Business” - suitable for students wishing to
learn English in a business context - secretaries, junior office staff etc. . This option is NOT
SUITABLE for experienced managers or executives. They should choose NEW BUSINESS
or one of the other EBPP courses are recommended in this case. See opposite page.
Minimum 2 weeks - maximum 6 weeks as part of General English Plus Options above.
Cambridge Examination Courses - FCE, CAE and CPE
25.5 hours per week January to March (9 weeks) March to June (12 wks) and September to December (12 wks).
The exam takes place during the week following the end of the course (please note that you need to book an extra
week for accommodation to cover the exam dates for the June and December exams).

NOTA BENE – COMPLETE/TOTAL BEGINNERS
Students with no English cannot
be accepted on any TIS courses except for the Personal Intensive Course.
If you are a complete beginner who is able to come for 24 weeks or longer, please discuss this
with us. We can work out a suitable start-up programme to help complete beginners progress to
elementary and then join a group class.
