English Language for the 50+
Learning a language isn't only for the young!
Students at TIS are from all age groups from 16 to 75 and sometimes older. Although we do organise courses for 50+ for groups who book together most of our older clients are in their 40s, 50s and 60s. Some attend our Business English courses but many join the General English courses or Intensive English Plus courses. Courses like these help you to combine your language course with a holiday and you can make your own afternoon programme or join our Social Programme.
Mature learners will feel safe joining us here at TIS. You will find others of a similar age in your class - even in the summer. Our accommodation is also suitable for our older clients - you can choose from a homestay with a private bathroom, an apartment but most convenient of all is Club TIS Hotel which is opposite the school. All the clients at Club TIS are mature individuals who are studying at the school.

After a 12 week course Gertrud (age 61) wrote the following words to us:

You're never too old to learn a language!
Whether you are in your 50s, 60,s 70s or even in your 80s, TIS has a place in a class tht is suitable for you. Each year, more and more "mature" students visit us to on the multi-national classes and so the age group is going up each year.
Tailor-made Group Courses for 50+
If you are a teacher or involved in some way with older people who are learning English, then you will be interested to know that we often “tailor-make” programmes specifically for 50+ and older groups.
These programmes usually last one or two weeks and include morning classes and afternoon cultural activities and sightseeing. Accommodation is arranged in a comfortable nearby hotel or with one of our Homestays who enjoy the company of mature guests.

Some of our 50+ students come first in a group bu then they realise that it is easy and comfortable to come to TIS individually and to join a multi-national class and learn with some of the younger students too. We organise classes first of all according to level and then according to age. We are always ready to listen to the comments of students in each class and to change the class for them if necessary.
English Plus is a course which has been designed for our adult clients who are looking for an intensive programmes of English classes, but in the mornings only. It is highly suitable for adults and the 50+ age group who want an intensive course they can combine with a holiday (or even extra afternoon classes). This group from Brest in France have had three visits to TIS.
They have a programme of morning classes and afternoon activities and sightseeing excursions arranged for them by our Social Manager. They have 2-3 closed group classes and if any of them have a very different level then those join our standard General English classes.
