Monday afternoon	Torquay Museum	Discover the real Agatha Christie and learn about how Stone Age Man made his home in Torquay.
Monday afternoon	Torquay Tour	A guided walk or drive round Torquay to show our new arrivals what goes on in this lovely town.
Wednesday afternoon	Mystery Minibus Trip	Out and about in our minibus around Torbay to find something different and something we haven’t seen before?
Thursday evening	Pub Night Churston Court Inn	This beautiful old pub in the heart of the South Devon countryside dates from the 12th Century. This is the pub where Agatha Christie used to have her Sunday lunch after worshipping at the church next door.
Friday afternoon	American Bowling	See who gets the highest score. If you haven’t played before JP will show you how.
Saturday all day trip	Exeter & Topsham	Along the coast up the River Exe to the picturesque port of Topsham Then we go on to the Cathedral city of Exeter for a guided tour.

Monday afternoon	Living Coasts	Spring is here, love is in the air and the birds and penguins are looking their best. Join us for a visit to Torquay's Marine Zoo on the harbourside.
Monday afternoon	Torquay Tour	A guided walk or drive round Torquay to show our new arrivals what goes on in this lovely town.
Wednesday afternoon.	Oldway Mansion	In 1871 this 100 room mansion was bought by Issac Singer, founder of the Singer Sewing Machine Company. He then started to build a huge new mansion. Singer died in 1875 aged 63. When he died he had 22 living children, various wives, both legal and common law!
Thursday evening	International Food Night	This is when you prepare your favourite national dishes and everybody gets to taste food from around the world.
Friday afternoon	Cockington Court and country park	On the edge of Torquay, this is a beautiful country park and mansion house. A local speciality is the Devon Cream Tea. Delicious!
Sunday	Dartmoor National Park	Highlight of the week – a walk across Dartmoor with Nick the Dartmoor postman. A fabulous day, a long walk, wonderful stories of Dartmoor. Watch out for the Hound of the Baskervilles – this is where Sherlock Holmes solved the great mystery. Walking boots can be provided.

Monday afternoon	Dartmouth	Our favourite place in the summer. The castle, the yacht marina and the little town sloping to the river. Home of Brittannia Royal Naval College where our royal princes train to be Naval Officers.
Monday afternoon	Torquay Tour	For new arrivals.
Wednesday afternoon	Berry Pomeroy Castle	An ancient ruined castle in beautiful country surroundings
Thursday evening	Barbecue & Volley-Ball	Good food great company and Volley Ball on a summer evening at TIS.
Friday afternoon	Boat trip	See Torbay as you cross the sea from Torquay to Brixham.
Saturday all day	Cornwall – King Arthur country and setting for many of the Rosamunde Pilcher novels!	A perfect walk along the dramatic Cornish cliffs from Tintagel Castle to Boscastle.

Monday afternoon	Totnes	An afternoon in this beautiful Elizabethan town famous for its art and culture.
Monday afternoon	Torquay Tour	For new arrivals.
Wednesday afternoon	Swimming	Let’s chill out in the heated pool at the Riviera centre.
Thursday evening	Pub Quiz Night	Which team will win a prize this evening at one of our local pubs.
Friday afternoon	Paignton Zoo	One of Britain’s largest and best Zoos, Paignton Zoo is an education and scientific charity dedicated to conserving global wildlife heritage and inspiring in its many visitors a life long respect for animals and the environment.
Saturday all day	Bath	A guided tour around this stunning Georgian town famous for its architecture, Roman Baths and Victorian Society.
Sunday	Free day	You could spend the day doing your homework or you could ask us for advice on where to go and what to do.

Seniors' Programme

This is a sample of a tailor-made programme for a group of seniors. With classes each morning and a tailor-made activity programme for the afternoons and weekends.

Monday afternoon	Visit to the Living Coasts	This is Torquay's coastal zoo and marin life conservation centre. A wonderful example of sea birds and coastal mammals from around the world.
Tuesday evening	A trip to Churston Court Inn - a beautiful 12th Century pub	This is the pub where Agatha Christie used to take Sunday lunch after morning service in the church. It's a good place for sitting round the fireside and sing-song round the piano
Wednesday afternoon	A visit to Kent's Cavern in Torquay	These prehistoric caves are the oldest recognisable human dwelling in Britain and have some of the oldest evidence of man's earliest occupation in Britain
Friday afternoon	A visit to Totnes on the River Dart	This beautiful Elizabethan town is full of character and a real artistic centre. It's a great place to try out the famous Devon Cream Tea; scones, strawberry jam and the thickest cream in the world! Mmmm - delicious.
Saturday all day	Exeter and Topsham Excursion	A little history, some nature and some shopping! Topsham is a delightful estuary port and birdlife reserve. Exeter is the capital Devon with great shops and a beautiful cathedral.

TIS Students are all ages from 15 to over 80 in

some cases.

The above are typical examples of the weekly activities at TIS. The programmes change every week and of course are subject to the weather! All social programme activities are optional.

Some of the activities are free of charge but others (such as excursions) are charged at cost. We do not make a profit on our Social Programme – it is provided to help you enjoy your stay with us.
